it’s been a great year

Today is the last day of school for my big boy, my kindergarten graduate!!  It has been a truly amazing school year for him and we have been blessed to watch him flourish and gain confidence in himself.  I cannot say enough amazing things about his teacher, who has consistently seen the best in Dash and nurtured his strengths.  He still has struggles to overcome ahead of him, specifically with transitions and some social skills, but he’s doing phenomenally well.  He’s writing confidently, reading consistently, and amazing me by how much he knows.   I am really sad to see his sweet kindergarten year come to an end and say goodbye to a great class and a great teacher…and yes I may have cried dropping him off and will probably cry again picking him up!   But we are ending on a great note–he has a great learning foundation, a love of school, a great set of friends we’ll stay in touch with over the summer, and the promise of another great school year next year at the same school.

I struggled to know what to get his teacher and teacher’s assistant to express my deep gratitude and thankfulness for the multitude of ways they have consistently gone above and beyond this past year.  In the end, I decided to keep it simple and from the heart.  They’re getting bouquets of fresh flowers, homemade bread that we made together, and a jar of the homemade jam we had already made from strawberry picking.  And since I love an excuse to take pictures, of course I photographed the bread fresh out of the oven:) We should have made enough for us because there is nothing like the smell of fresh baking bread….we have been drooling over it…..

We’re going to do something special tomorrow, just me and my boys, to celebrate the first day of summer and then my summer theme weeks start next week!   It’s been a great school year and now it’s going to be a great summer of enjoying time with my boys before Dash is in school all day next year and Jack Jack is in preschool three mornings.

Wow, can’t believe our boys are done kindergarten. Well, Owen has three more days, but still, it’s the end. Time has flown by… next year is entirely different than the fun and playfulness of kindergarten, and it’s kind of sad. Enjoy the summer!

Doesn’t it seem like yesterday that you were worried about Dash’s first year of school?! So glad to hear he had a great year and continues to grow and flourish!

Great ideas on the teacher gifts! I think they will appreciate something from the heart that you REALLY thought of them while making them rather than just picking up something off a shelf in a store.

I’m drooling over the photo of the bread!
